What a washing machine costs to run today in Spain
Pick the capacity, the energy class and the start time: you get the cost of the wash and the hour when it is cheapest.
An 8 kg class C washing machine uses at most 0.627 kWh on the eco 40-60 programme, the one the EU energy label measures. Today, 17 October, that wash costs €0.01 including taxes if it starts at 12:00, the best time, and €0.18 if it starts at 0:00, the worst. At four washes a week for a year, the gap between getting the timing right and wrong is about €35. A class A machine of the same size uses at most 0.473 kWh, and its best wash today costs €0.01. Energy use comes from the formula in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/2014, at the top of each class; if your label shows a different figure, change the class or capacity. Hotter or longer programmes use more than eco.

Some hours use the estimated average price (Red Eléctrica has not published that day yet): not the exact price.

Assumptions
Energy spread evenly over the programme, PVPC price of each hour with electricity tax and VAT. If the programme runs past midnight, the next day’s price is used. Power and meter are not included: you pay them whether or not you use the appliance. Method and sources

What each class uses
| Energy class | Maximum index | kWh per wash (8 kg) |
|---|---|---|
| A | 52 | 0.473 |
| B | 60 | 0.545 |
| C | 69 | 0.627 |
| D | 80 | 0.727 |
| E | 91 | 0.827 |
| F | 102 | 0.927 |
Much of a wash’s energy goes into heating water, which is why programme and temperature matter more than the brand. A cold programme or eco at 40 °C uses far less than cottons at 60 °C. What the hour changes is the price of each kWh: the same energy costs more or less depending on when the machine starts.
If your machine has a delay timer, check tomorrow’s price in the evening and leave it set. For the dishwasher the sum is the same with a different consumption formula, on its own page.
