Method and sources
Precio Luz Real turns the official PVPC price into what a household pays. Hourly prices come from public file no. 70 on e·sios, Red Eléctrica’s information system, which a script downloads several times each evening from 8:40 pm (Madrid time), again after midnight and in the early afternoon, rebuilding the site each time. The site keeps the last 401 days, from to . Regulated values sit in a parameter file reviewed on , each with its BOE rule.
The tax-inclusive price formula
For each hour: price with taxes = PVPC energy term × (1 + electricity tax) × (1 + VAT). The electricity tax has a minimum of 1 € per MWh, which only bites at the reduced 0.5% rate. In the Canary Islands IGIC is used instead, at 0% for homes up to 10 kW. In Ceuta and Melilla, the 1% IPSI set by their tax bylaws, and the price from the file’s CYM column, which follows their own period calendar (peak 11 am–3 pm and 7–11 pm). Example with today’s middle hour: 0.0182 €/kWh × (1 + 0.05112696) × (1 + 0.21) = 0.0232 €/kWh.
The bill
Power: peak-standard kW × 30.817413 € + off-peak kW × 0.725423 € per kW per year, pro rata by days. Energy: consumption is spread hour by hour with the standard 2.0TD profile Red Eléctrica publishes in the same file (COF2TD column), and each hour is charged at its own price. Then come social-discount funding (9.011295 € a year), electricity tax on all of that, meter rental (0.81 € a month) and VAT on the total. The social discount takes the current percentage off power and energy up to the kWh cap in Royal Decree 897/2017.
Appliances
Default consumption for the washing machine, dishwasher and oven comes from the EU energy label formulas (Delegated Regulations 2019/2014, 2019/2017 and 65/2014): standard consumption for the capacity × the maximum index of the chosen class. For car charging it is battery × share to charge, and duration is energy ÷ charge-point power. Energy is spread evenly over the programme and charged at each hour; if the programme runs past midnight, the next day’s price is used.
Tests
Before each release automated tests run with hand-checked cases: price with taxes, the electricity tax minimum, periods, bills with and without the social discount, label formulas and income thresholds. On top of that, for every hour of 2026 the tests check that the tolls-and-charges share in Red Eléctrica’s file (TEUPCB column, and TEUCYM with the Ceuta and Melilla calendar) is exactly the BOE figure for that hour’s period: peak 0.097553, standard 0.029267 and off-peak 0.003292 €/kWh. If the CNMC or the Ministry changed a value and we had not updated it, the test would fail and nothing would be published.
What the site does not calculate
Market tariffs with more than one price per period (the comparison takes a single fixed price). Self-consumption and surplus compensation. Car charging losses. Powers above 10 kW, which cannot be on the PVPC. Every result is an estimate: your bill is what counts.

Frequently asked questions
Why is your tax-inclusive price different from another site’s?
Nearly always because the other site shows the pre-tax price, or adds VAT only, or uses another date’s rates. We start from the PVPC energy term Red Eléctrica publishes and apply the electricity tax and VAT in force that day; the “Excluded” option shows the original figure so you can compare.
What happens if Red Eléctrica does not publish a day?
The page does not make up a price. If a day’s file is unavailable, the calculator shows an estimated average: the hour-by-hour average of previous days of the same type (weekdays, or weekends and holidays) over the last four weeks, with a visible notice. As soon as the official figure arrives, it replaces the estimate.
Do you store what I type into the calculators?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser with the data the page already carries. Nothing is sent to any server. If you use the share link, the values travel in the page address and whoever receives it can see them.
